Not every builder is allowed to do this
A dropped kerb is work on the public highway, so it needs a contractor with New Roads and Street Works Act accreditation and the right traffic management. We hold NRSWA, which is why we can do it and most local builders cannot. If somebody has quoted you for one without mentioning the council, that is worth a second thought.
How it works
Five steps, and we do four of them

We come and measure
Width, kerb type, what the footpath is made of, whether there is a verge, and where your services run. Free, and no obligation.
- 02
We apply to the council
This is the part people dread and it is the part we take off you. We submit the application and the specification in your name.
- 03
The council approves it
Timescales vary by council. We will tell you what to expect for yours rather than guess.
- 04
We do the work
Kerbs lifted and re-laid to the approved spec, footpath made good, surface finished in tarmac, setts or block to match.
- 05
The council inspects
They come and check it. One of our Pontefract customers had theirs inspected and passed the day after we finished.
Money
What it costs, honestly
There is no fixed price for a dropped kerb and anybody quoting one down the phone has not seen your footpath. What changes it: how many kerb stones have to come up, whether it is a single or a double, what the footpath is built on, whether a verge has to be crossed and surfaced, whether any services are in the way, and your council's own application fee.
